Three men, who were recently nabbed by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit in the Parika area with over 5 pounds of cocaine were today charged and remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate.
48-year-old, Deopaul Gordeen, 47-year-old Mohammed Insham and 41-year-old, Amid Kumar appeared in Court this morning and the cocaine trafficking charge was read to them.
The three men pleaded not guilty.
CANU’s case is that on the 23rd July at Parika, the men were being observed by CANU ranks, when it was noticed that one of the men, handed over a bag to one of the other. The same bag was then handed over to a third man, who placed it in a car and left the area.
That third man was intercepted and arrested with the cocaine in the car. The Court has been told that surveillance video exists with the handover that all three men took part in.
The case has been sent to the Leonora Magistrates’ Court and will continue next month. The three accused will remain behind bars until that hearing.
