The Caribbean Examinations Council has confirmed that the top regional performers at the 2020 CAPE and CSEC examinations are both Guyanese students.

It has been confirmed that the top Guyana and Caribbean CAPE performer is Zane Ramotar from Queen’s College and the top CSEC performer is Bhedesh Persaud who is also from Queens College.

Ramotar attained 14 grade ones and a grade two at the CAPE exams while Persaud attained 22 grade ones and a grade two at the CSEC exams.

Guyana has also received additional individual awards from CXC.

The top CAPE student, Zane Ramotar said that he is relieved that the results have finally been confirmed.

“For this academic year, the academic period has finally come to an end…. I have actually been out of school for almost six months now, so to have this being declared now, it feels good to finally get some closure in this whole situation” Ramotar said.

He now intends to pursue studies at the University of Southern California and return to contribute to the development of Guyana in the area of physics.

“I was actually accepted into the University of Southern California in the US, thats where I am going to study but of course the plan is to come back here and develop Guyana especially in the field of physics” Romotar added

The top CSEC performer Bhedesh Persaud, who has hopes of becoming an engineer, said he is now focused on completing his CAPE studies.

“I’m grateful, I’m happy for the results, I’m ecstatic but of course my focus is on CAPE right now so that’s in the past and it is time to move forward”.
