Two Bandits killed by Police in Berbice shoot-out following robbery

Two bandits, who Police say had been terrorizing residents in the Berbice area, were shot dead during a shoot-out with Police on Friday morning.

The two men have been identified as 37-year-old Indarjit Sham aka Danny and 21-year-old  Amar Bissoon aka Punk.

According to a Police statement late Friday night, at around 05:00h Friday morning, six male suspects,two of whom were armed with guns, went to a ranch house at Potocco Creek,Berbice River, where they held three male labourers at gunpoint.

The bandits stole Twenty-three (23) sheep, fifteen (15)ducks, a solar panel, a radio,a quantity of rope, and other valuables; property of a 50 year-old businessman of Vryheid,West Canje,Berbice. The stolen items were loaded in a getaway boat.

But shortly after the robbery, the police was informed and a team commanded by a Senior Detective acting on intelligence, intercepted a boat in the Berbice river with two of the suspects.
The two were taken into custody.

The ranks then proceeded to a location where the robbery allegedly occurred and found all of the animals with their legs bound and the other stolen property loaded inside a camouflage aluminum boat.

A twelve gauge pump action shotgun, a .32 pistol, eleven live cartridges, and five live.32 rounds were found in possession of the bandits.

Investigators also found three spent cartridges and a .32 spent shell at the scene.

The two dead men are both from the Canje area.

Police in the area are continuing with their probe in an effort to arrest the remaining two bandits.  The two who are in custody are to face charges in the new week.
