Two die after crashing into parked unlit truck on Soesdyke-Linden Highway

Two men lost their lives tragically in an early morning accident along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway this morning.

The two dead men have been identified as Chinese national, 54-year-old Da Tai Lei and 87-year-old, Lethem resident, Edward Singh. A third man, Wen Wu Lei is hospitalised with serious injuries.

The three were traveling in a 4×4 pick-up along the highway when it slammed into a truck that was parked and left unlit along the highway.

The Police said the accident occurred just after midnight, and the driver of the truck, Liston Marcus, had reportedly encountered some mechanical issues with the truck. The truck was left along the highway without any lights on, any reflectors or any warning appliances.

The Police said the 4×4 pick-up with the three men was being driven at a fast rate when it slammed into the back of the truck.

The three men were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to the hospital where two of them were pronounced dead and the third was rushed into emergency care. The truck driver has since been taken into custody and is likely to face charges soon.
