Two die in railway embankment smash-up at Lilliendaal

A late-night accident along the railway embankment at Lilliendaal has claimed the lives of two drivers.

One of the dead men has been identified as taxi driver Devaskar Jetoo, while the other man is still to be identified, according to the Police.

The three-vehicle accident occurred around 10:30 pm on Saturday.

According to a Police report, the car that was being driven by the still to be identified man was proceeding west along the southern side of the railway embankment at a fast rate.

As the driver was overtaking another car, he collided with the front side of the car and lost control, ending up in the path of the taxi that was being driven Devaskar Jetoo.

The two cars smashed into each other killing both drivers. Jetoo was taken to the hospital where he died while doctors tried to save his life while the other man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver and occupant of the third car that was involved in the accident are both hospitalised with serious injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
