Two die in separate Boxing night accidents

The rider of an unregistered motorcycle died last evening after he crashed head on into a motor car on Mandela Avenue close to the Botanical gardens. The incident occurred just after 7pm.

The dead man has been identified as Shaquille Brown of Norton Street, Georgetown.

He was reportedly proceeding north along the western carriageway at a fast rate when he overtook a number of vehicles by driving in the opposite lane and slammed into a motorcar that was coming in the opposite direction.

Brown, who was not wearing a helmet, fell onto the roadway, where he reportedly sustained several injuries to his head and upper body.

Medical professionals rushed to the scene, where they pronounced him dead. The driver of the motorcar was injured and is assisting with the investigation.

And last evening also, along the East Bank of Demerara, a speeding motorist lost control of his vehicle and slammed into one of the power poles at the centre of the 4 lane road at Providence. He has been identified as 43 year old Salim Deen of Mon Repos.

The impact of the crash pitched the man from his car and onto the roadways. He received several head injuries and was pronounced dead on the spot.

An investigation is ongoing.
