Two Venezuelans and Essequibo man remanded for murder of miner

Two Venezuelan nationals and a Guyanese man from Essequibo were remanded to jail today after being charged with the murder of 26-year-old miner Kevin Allam.

Appearing in Court virtually today were Venezuelans Gilberto Da Silva and Angel Figueira and Essequibo Coast resident Nadeem Baksh.

The three, who also worked as miners, were not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge and were ushered off to jail after being remanded.

The incident took place last Friday at Port Kaituma, North West District.

It is alleged that the three men murdered the young miner after he attempted to defend his wife when they attacked her at the shop where she worked.

When the man intervened, he was beaten about his body with pieces of wood by the three men. He died on the spot and the three were later arrested.

They will make their next Court appearance on the 22nd December.
