The Government is still looking to see if it could afford a year end bonus for public servants, but Finance Minister, Winston Jordan might not want them to hold their breaths for that bonus.

In an interview with News Source just after he unveiled government’s $250 Billion budget for 2017, the Minister explained that there is a very slim chance that the bonus will be offered this year.

He said over the past year, there has been more investment and recruitment in the security sector and with an increased salary bill, it may now be difficult to offer a year end bonus to all public servants at this time.

“If we could find the money it will be for everybody instead of just for the army or so on. I think what happened this year is that we paid a slightly bigger salary than last year overall and also I think we took on some more numbers especially in the security service and that took away what we could find. We’re still looking but its a very slim possibility.”

Last year, the Government paid a $50,000 Christmas bonus to all public servants. Before that, only members of the Joint Services were paid one month’s salary as a bonus.
