WIN rejects claims of “backroom” deals with PPP and APNU

Presidential Candidate for We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, Azruddin Mohamed, has stated that his party is not colluding with the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) nor A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) in any “backdoor agreement” ahead of the Elections.

Both sides have accused each other of “secretively” working with WIN to gain leverage over the next Government or Parliament, but Mohamed has denied those claims.

“I am not in no way shape or form aligned with the PPP/C nor the APNU Administration. It is all lies,”he told reporters in a recent interview.

General Secretary of the PPP/C, Bharrat Jagdeo has repeatedly accused WIN of being in a “backdoor” agreement with the APNU and the Alliance For Change (AFC) to reduce the PPP/C to a minor government following the elections.

On the other hand, APNU has warned that with Mohamed once being an old ally of the PPP/C, it is possible that a minority government could see WIN working with the PPP/C. But Mohamed said the parties are “desperate.”

“Presently, the WIN movement, I would call it a movement because it is for the people. I am in the middle, we have APNU on the right; we have PPP on the left. They are so desperate, they know, come 2nd September, WIN will win the elections,” he said.

WIN’s General Secretary, Odessa Primus, during the launch of the party’s manifesto, rejected claims that the party was working with other parties. However, she made it clear that once the elections are over, WIN would be prepared to work with anyone in the best interest of the country.

“Today, we would like to say as clearly as we possibly can that we have absolutely no association or affiliation with any of those parties. Additionally, I would like to say that because we have the best interest of people of this nation at heart, that we are prepared to work with any party as it relates to development of this country,” Primus said.

WIN – a party formed just over three months ago – has pulled supporters from the three major political parties in the country – APNU, PPP/C and AFC – with a number of APNU+AFC Members of Parliament resigning to join WIN.
