Jose Jardine under his “team flash” and Clint Gonsalves, carted a lion’s share of the trophies at the 14th annual Lake Mainstay Regatta on Sunday in Essequibo. Both drivers were at loggerheads throughout the day in their races, thrilling the thousands in attendance.
Jardine registered his first of many wins in the four-lap 90 horse power (HP) category, by stamping his authority when he lapped third placed driver, Louknauth Jaggernauth.
Team flash continued to chalk-up the wins, with a spectacular run in the 40HP three-lap race even though he received scare from Gonsalves, who was behind the wheel of “Bravo.”
However in the second 40HP event, Gonsalves took revenge, blazing to victory ahead of Jardine and Jaggernauth.
The back-and forth contest between the two continued to ensue, as Jardine now had Gonsalves trailing in the 200HP five lap race.
Aside from the dare-devil racing with the engines, some persons showed their skills in the 200 meter male and female canoeing.
Sanjeev Ramdeen surged in the male category followed by Alwyn Marks and Geton Thomas in second and third respectively.
The women’s event saw Carla Ramdeen emerge victorious, trailed by Loretta Savory in second and Simone Persaud in third.
The swimming open event saw only men participating as Loid Ward of Bartica was deemed the best swimmer of the day while Ramdeen and Deondre Thomas round of the top three.
When the sun sat on the resort, the grand stage show took place which saw performances from local artistes such as Yoland Need, Big Red, Bounty Singh and Jomo.
