Elected to serve a second term in office, President Irfaan Ali, in an acceptance speech late on Saturday night, assured that no one will be left behind by his Government.
President Ali won Monday’s election with a significant victory. He said the victory is not just a triumph for the party, but the triumph of an entire people, determined to move forward together.
In a country heavily divided along political and racial lines, President Ali assured that his victory will not see the exclusion of anyone, emphasizing that every community, every citizen counts.
“Whether you voted for the PPP/C or not, you are first and foremost a citizen of Guyana, and in our Guyana, no one is left behind under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic. So, let us all move forward, together as partners in nation building. Together, we will transform this country of ours into the land of shared prosperity, that it is destined to be,” the President said.
He said through their votes, Guyanese have spoken, and democracy has prevailed. He said the orderly and peaceful conduct of last Monday’s elections was a clear demonstration of the strength and maturity of the country’s democracy.
President Ali noted that from the moment the polls were opened to the final declaration, Guyanese showed the world that democracy in Guyana is alive, robust, and vibrant.
The president thanked the Disciplined Services, the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and supporters of the PPP/C for safeguarding both the country, and its democracy.
‘Now that the results are known, I extend my profound appreciation to the supporters of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic, you walked this journey with me, you worked tirelessly with the party, you sacrifice time and energy, you placed your trust in my candidacy and in our party’s vision, you listened to our leaders, you trusted our leaders, you embraced us, you showed us love. Yes, the red army, the victory of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic is a vindication of our stellar record of over the past five years.”
The President will be officially sworn in at State House this morning.
