Certificate of Titles for land to be processed within three months -Croal

The Minister of Housing, Collin Croal has announced that the processing time for Certificates of Titles has been significantly reduced to three months, paving the way for potential home owners to receive the legal document needed to commence the process to home building.

Speaking during the Ministry’s Dream Realized event in Region 5 this morning, Mr. Croal noted that historically the processing time for titles has been six-months, but in other instances the process has been drawn out.

To this end, he said the Housing Ministry has been working with the Deeds Registry to speed up the process.

“When we came in as a Government, your titles were taking longer than six months, we have engaged the registrar and we have added staff from our end and they have added staff from their end and the time period we are now working on with the processing of titles is three months, so we have brought it down from six to three months for the processing of titles,” Mr. Croal announced.

The event also saw one thousand house lots being distributed to residents in Region 5 in the new housing areas of Experiment and Track A Hope. The Minister said the allocation is the first installment in clearing the 4,000-land application backlog in the Region.

Over 500 titles from the previous land allocation exercise were also distributed at the event.

“This is a new area, we have a number of old areas that were allocated in the last period such Experiment, Blairmont, Sheilds Town etc, those are all part of the 1,900 that we allocated in the last period. Therefore today, we have over 550 certificates of titles that are available to be uplifted—over 332 for the experiment area then we have already started the Blairmont/ Sheieldstown area for the issuance of titles” the Minister said.

Mr. Coral assured that infrastructure works for the new areas in the region should commence in just over a month.

Meanwhile, Minister in the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn, said the Ministry is moving beyond land allocation and is encouraging persons to adopt a new form of building their homes to prevent flooding and help with the government’s beautification push.

“Not only housing development we are focused on in terms of house lots and your home, but also ensuring that the environment you live in is beautified. So, I am asking you that as we ensure that the roads and drains are good, not to concrete your entire yard, keep some grass there so we don’t have issues of flooding,” the Minister noted.

The Minister also stated that Government allocated lots are subsidized making home ownership more accessible to all Guyanese.
