The driver of a mini-bus and the driver of a truck that were involved in a fatal accident on Saturday that claimed the life of a 36-year-old man, have both been charged and remanded to prison for causing death by dangerous driving.
Mini-bus driver, 31-year-old Colin Cumberbatch and truck driver, 55-year-old Kord Sobers, appeared in Court this morning before Magistrate Judy Latchman, where the charge was read to both of them.
The two have been remanded to prison until the 10th July, 2026 when the matter will continue.
A police report on the accident this morning revealed that the mini-bus being driven by Colin Cumberbatch was being driven north along the Providence road in the right lane when during an attempt to overtake the truck being driven by Kord Sobers, the truck made a sharp right turn and entered the path of the mini-bus resulting in the bus colliding with the right side of the truck and the median.
The mini-bus toppled onto its right side and collided with a motor car that was proceeding in the opposite direction.

As a result of the accident, the driver of the motor car and an occupant sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the minibus and seven passengers sustained injuries about their bodies.
Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned, and 36-year-old Ruddy Raymond, who was a passenger in the bus, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the minibus and six surviving passengers were taken to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where they received medical treatment.
Guyana has recorded more than 45 road deaths since the start of the year, with traffic officials pleading with drivers to be much more cautious on the country’s roadways.
