A 17-year-old Canal #1 youth and his father have been arrested for the murder of 29-year-old Deonarine Ramachandran of the same village.

Ramachandran was stabbed to death on Saturday night during a confrontation with the youth and his father.

A police report said earlier in the night, the 17-year-old was threatening to take his own life at the now dead man’s house after the two went on a drinking spree.

The teenager who was reportedly intoxicated allegedly armed himself with a knife and was making attempts to harm himself.

The 29-year-old friend Deonarine Ramachandran took away a knife from him and slapped him to the face to calm him down.

The Police said the teen left the house and returned with a cutlass, now threatening to take his older friend’s life.

He was chased away from the house by the man but later returned, and according to eyewitnesses continued to behave in a disorderly manner.

The Police report said the teen was chased again to his house by the man who armed himself with a cutlass this time.

At the teen’s home, the Police said the 29-year-old attempted to assault the teen and got into a fight with the teen’s father. It was during that confrontation with the father, that it is alleged the 17-year-old stabbed the 29-year-old man to his abdomen.

He collapsed at the scene and was taken to the Georgetown Hospital where he died while being treated.

The teenager and his father were later arrested by the Police and are being questioned about the murder and the incidents that led to it.

The investigations are ongoing.
