Former Ministry of Business official charged for allegedly forging scrap metal export license

Former Business Liaison Officer at the Ministry of Business, Neilson McKenzie Jr., found himself before the Chief Magistrate this morning facing forgery charges.

The man entered a plea of not guilty to the charge that he forged a scrap metal export license while being in the employ of the Government Ministry.

The court heard that between the 20th June and the 2nd October, 2017 in Georgetown, with the intent to defraud, he allegedly forged the scrap metal license in the name of Puran Sagnauth on behalf of Avinash Scrap Metal Dealership.

After listening to the facts of the matter, the Chief Magistrate released McKenzie on $150,000 bail. He was instructed to return to Court on the 10th January.

The charge follows an investigation into the Scrap Metal Unit of the Business Ministry.  In a recent letter to the press, McKenzie declared his innocence.
