Four juveniles charged and remanded over fire at Karasabai Dorm

Four teenage boys have been charged for allegedly setting the fire that gutted the Karasabai Girls Dormitory in Region Nine.

The four juveniles appeared at the Lethem Magistrates’ Court and were not required to enter a plea to the indictable charges and have been remanded at the Juvenile Holding Centre.

Additionally, the Court has ordered that a medical evaluation be carried out on the four teens by a Court appointed doctor.

The teenagers were arrested on the 1st June following the early morning fire at the facility. They will make their next Court appearance on the 13th July.

Their arrests came after investigators were told that the four had allegedly issued threats to burn down the facility after being scolded by caretakers.

No one was injured in the fire, but it came just a week after another fire at a school dorm claimed the lives of 20 girls. A teenage girl has been remanded in connection with that fire which took place at the Mahdia School dormitory. She is facing murder charges related to the deaths of her schoolmates.
