The husband and friend of the Yarrowkabra woman, Edith Rueben who was found hanging from a mango tree in her yard were today charged and remanded to jail for the woman’s murder.

Appearing in Court today to face the indictable murder charge were the dead woman’s common-law husband, 41-year-old Dianand Lakhan and his friend, 36-year-old Aubrey Williams. Both are from the same Yarrowkabra community.

They were not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge.

The woman’s lifeless body was discovered hanging last Tuesday morning from a mango tree in her yard. Investigators immediately ruled out suicide as there were concerns about the positioning of the woman’s body.

A post-mortem examination that was conducted last Friday confirmed that the woman died from blunt trauma to the head and asphyxiation.

The Police also reported that the two men had confessed to the crime, claiming that they found the woman in a compromising position with another man in the house.

The husband had earlier told investigators that the night before his wife’s body was found, the two of them and other friends were out at a bar enjoying alcoholic beverages. He also claimed that one of his friends spent the same night at their home after the drinking spree.
