Man who claims ex-lover fell on knife he was holding, committed to face High Court trial for attempted murder

A labourer who repeatedly maintained that his ex-lover fell on a knife that he had in his possession and he did not stab her, was committed to stand a High Court trial for attempted murder today.

The accused, Cleveland Williams, offered an apology to his ex-lover in Court today even as he made an application for bail.

He said he would like to be able to earn a salary so that he could pay support for his children and pay his attorneys fees.  The Magistrate denied bail.

It was back in April that the Police responded to reports of an altercation in D’Urban Street between the accused and his ex-lover, Loshanna Boyce.

When the Police arrived at the scene, they found the woman bleeding with multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital.

The woman was allegedly attacked by the man just after she dropped off her child off at school. She was left bleeding on the roadway as the accused attempted to escape. He was however, cornered and arrested.

Throughout the preliminary inquiry, the accused told the Court that the incident was an accident and he never stabbed his ex-lover deliberately. The Magistrate did not buy that story and told him that a strong enough case had been made out against him.

He will now face a Judge and Jury.
