Police charged for assault after breaking businessman’s jaw

Six months after a businessman was allegedly beaten at the hands of a Police Officer in a Police outpost, the policeman has found himself before the Court facing an assault charge.

27-year-old, Policeman, Jamal Watson appeared before Magistrate, Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus this morning and denied the allegation made against him.

The Court heard that on the 19th July 2019 at Ruimveldt, Watson severely assaulted businessman Jermaine Wilson, leaving him with a broken jaw. The incident was captured on camera.

The businessman reportedly went to the Police outpost in Ruimveldt to inquire about his brother, who was in custody.

During the visit, he got into a row with the Policeman.

That confrontation between the two got out of control as it became physical. Eventually, the Policeman was able to restrain the businessman but allegedly kept punching him to the face.

The businessman later complained that he was further assaulted while handcuffed. Bail was granted to the Policeman in the sum of $100,000 today and he will have to make his next appearance at the end of this month.
