23-years in jail for unlawful killing of Festival City youth

A-29-year-old North Ruimveldt resident was sentenced to 23 years in jail today after admitting to the execution-style killing of Festival City resident Christopher Wharton.

In Court today, the accused Rickford Jones called Junie appeared before Justice Sandel Kissoon and entered a guilty plea to the lesser count of manslaughter.

He admitted to the unlawful killing of Wharton in November of 2015.

Wharton was on the stairs of his Festival City home when he came under a hail of gunfire.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras and the two suspects were seen riding away from the scene.

Wharton’s father was also injured during the attack. The other accused in the matter, Brian Mohan, has maintained his innocence and is now scheduled to face a High Court trial.
