Two inmates hospitalised after bloody brawl in Lusignan jail

Two inmates of the Lusignan jail are now hospitalized with chop and stab wounds after they were involved in a jailhouse brawl with each other.

In a statement, the Guyana Prison Service related that it remains unclear what triggered the fight between inmates Gerald Jones and Kaley Roberts.

There was a reported verbal confrontation between the two inmates before they started to beat on each other.

The release said during the fistfight, prisoner Jones armed himself with an improvised cutlass and dealt Roberts several chops about his body.

In response, prisoner Roberts armed himself with an ice pick and stabbed Jones in the region of his chest.

The two injured men were eventually parted and rushed to the health center in the prison then taken to the Georgetown Hospital where they both remain under guard and in a serious condition.

An investigation into the Sunday night fight is ongoing.
