Two Venezuelans among three charged for murder of Chinese businessman at Eteringbang

Two Venezuelan nationals and a Guyanese man were charged and remanded today over the murder of Chinese Supermarket owner, Lisong Yang.

Yang was murdered in his Eteringbang Landing supermarket on the 14th March during a robbery. Two of the accused were arrested at the scene of the robbery and murder, while the third was arrested within hours of the crime.

Appearing in Court today, Venezuelan nationals, Darvy Diaz De Costa and Oscar Alcides Scanio, and Guyanese Pharrell Prince Adelph were not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge when they appeared before Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

After listening to the charge filed against the men, and informing them of the charge, the Magistrate remanded all three accused to jail until the 24th April, when the matter will return to Court.

The three are accused of attacking the Chinese Supermarket owned by Lisong Wong last Thursday afternoon demanding money and valuables. During the robbery, the man was brutally beaten and his neck slashed. His wife was also beaten, but she survived her injuries.

The community of Eteringbang borders Venezuela, and there have been growing concerns about the high number of Venezuelan migrants who have been traveling over to the community, which also serves as a military base for the Guyana Defence Force.
