A 20-year-old woman was arrested at the Lusignan prison today after she attempted to smuggle marijuana into the jailhouse.
The woman, Althea Douglas, was at the prison to visit her fiancé, who is an inmate.
Prison officers found the marijuana concealed in a number of “blue soap” that she had in her possession for her heartbeat.
In total, the marijuana weighed 19 grammes. Douglas was immediately arrested by the Prison authorities and handed over to the Police.
She is expected to face charges before the end of the week.
In a statement this evening, the Guyana Prison Service issued a warning to persons visiting the prison facilities to desist from their smuggling attempts.
The Prison Service reminds that those found in possession of contraband items will face the full force of the law.
