The month of April still has 10 days to go and it has already surpassed March as the month with the highest number of new COVID-19 infections in Guyana since the pandemic started a year ago.
Guyana today recorded 71 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of active cases in the country to 1388.
Since the start of April, the country has recorded 1723 new cases and 40 deaths. Two new deaths were recorded today. The total death toll now stands at 273 and there are 13 persons in the Coronavirus Intensive Care Unit who are being closely monitored.
Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony today revealed that a number of areas in Regions Three and Four are hotspots for the virus.
He said that it is worrying that in the two regions, at least every village or area has seen COVID-19 cases.
He named the areas of Diamond, Eccles, Success and Lusignan as the hotspots in Region 4
Region Four currently has the highest number of active cases in the country and has been the epicentre of the pandemic locally since the first case was recorded.
