A mini-bus driver from Sophia is in custody after he chased a Police officer with a cutlass during a traffic stop in the city today.
In a statement this evening, the Guyana Police Force stated that the Police Constable was on motorcycle patrol along Homestretch Avenue when he noticed the mini-bus bearing license plate number BZZ-3029 overtaking a line of more than 15 vehicles.
According to the Police, the driver was stopped and told of the offence of dangerous driving and asked to produce his driver’s license.
The mini-bus driver drove off but the traffic rank caught up with him on Sheriff Street where he managed to stop the driver.
As seen on a video recording of the incident, the driver got out of the vehicle, went to the left passenger side and returned with a cutlass and started to chase after the Policeman.
The Police Constable ran and the driver got back into his bus and drove to his Sophia residence where he was later arrested and taken to the Brickdam Police station where he was booked and held without bail.
The incident is still under investigation.
