20 Foot whale washes up at Kitty seawalls; hundreds gather for close look

A whale measuring just over 20 feet in length washed ashore at the Kitty Seawalls this morning and died. The occurrence sent hundreds of persons to the seawall for an up close look.

Early morning joggers made the discovery just after 5 am and within minutes, scores of persons began rushing to the seawall and remained there for hours.

One jogger was heard explaining that she became scared when she first saw the whale but as other persons came to take a look, she gathered enough courage to go closer. She said when she first got to the seawall, the whale appeared to be breathing its last breath as most of its body was caught out of the water as a result of the low tide.

Parents could be seen taking their children to get a look at the mammal that many of them would have only read about in books and seen on television shows.

The Guyana Coast Guard eventually arrived on the scene and was expected to make a decision on to how best the dead whale could be disposed.
