The death toll from COVID-19 in Guyana increased by six on Wednesday, cementing May as the deadliest month for the pandemic in the country since the first case over a year ago.
Four of the six most recent deaths are from the Region 4 area while the other two are from Region Eight.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Health also reported the highest single day increase in new cases as 236 new cases were recorded within 24 hours.
The majority of new cases is from Region Eight, triggering concern among health officials that the region may now be facing a spike in new cases possibly because of the presence of the Brazilian variant of the virus.
In the past 26 days, Guyana has recorded 3,273 new cases of COVID-19 and a total of 75 deaths.
