36 Active COVID-19 Cases in Region Nine

As of Monday, Region Nine had recorded a total of 41 cases of coronavirus with 36 of those cases still active. The region recorded its first COVID-19 case back in May.

36 Active COVID-19 Cases in Region Nine

Communities across Region Nine have been warned by the Regional Health Officials that they are all at a high risk of seeing more cases of coronavirus.

As of Monday, Region Nine had recorded a total of 41 cases of coronavirus with 36 of those cases still active. The region recorded its first COVID-19 case back in May.

On Monday, the Region Nine recorded 19 new cases.

According to a statement from the Regional Health Officer, there was one case in the village of Wowetta, two cases in Annai, four cases in Aranaputa, two cases in Katur, two in Quiko and the remaining eight cases in the village of Potarinau.

Health officials in the region have indicated that the medical team in the region will continue to do contact tracing and testing. New samples are to be sent to Georgetown on Friday for testing.

The Regional Officer has indicated that it is obvious that there is community spread of coronavirus in Region Nine.

“We continue to urge all to practice social and physical distancing hand washing and sanitizing, use of face mask, staying at home unless necessary, and avoid crossing the border. All villages are high risk, we are all at high risk”, Regional Health Officer Dr. Naail Uthman said.

Guyana currently has 188 active COVID-19 cases.
