After being taken as hostages,a policeman and a post office driver are being questioned following an early morning robbery at the busy downtown Bourda post office on Wednesday. Gunmen made off with over $90 Million in cash which should have been used for pension payments at the post office and a high powered rifle.
According to reports just after 8 o’ clock on Wednesday morning, three men armed with firearms held up a police escort and the driver of a General Post Office motor vehicle, who were in the vehicle outside of the Post Office in Regent Street, Bourda, while in the process of delivering monies to the Post Office. A senior police officer told News Source that the post office driver is being questioned because he was the same driver shuttling money to Beterverwagting post office when it was robbed.
The Police Force in a statement said the perpetrators took away the policeman’s service G3 Rifle with 20 rounds and then entered the vehicle and forced the driver to drive away, with the police rank inside.
According to the police statement, the men abandoned the vehicle along Cemetery Road, Georgetown, and made off with $90M that was in the vehicle and the policeman’s firearm. The Policeman and the driver were left uninjured at the scene.
Investigations are in progress.
