92 COVID-19 new cases from the backlog of tests

The coronavirus cases in Guyana continue to climb with the Public Health Ministry revealing today that there were 92 new cases and one more death.

But the 92 new cases are part of the backlog of samples that were sent to Trinidad last Monday.

The Ministry said it is important to note that the total figures in the Dashboard do not represent results from the most recent testing as of yesterday, but over a longer period of time.

The results from 359 of the 500 samples sent to the Caribbean Public Health Agency have so far been made available to the Health Ministry.

The Health Ministry admitted last week to a growing backlog in still to be completed tests.

Persons have been complaining of waiting between two to three weeks for their results.

As of last Friday, there were still more than 900 samples awaiting tests. The country currently has 535 active COVID-19 cases with 488 of those cases in home isolation.

There has been a total of 962 recoveries.
