Guyana has recorded an additional 819 cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hrs.

There are now 12,355 active cases in the country and a number of hotspot areas for infections have been identified.

The bulk of the active cases are in Region Four with 7,512 active cases, Region Three with 1,935 cases, and Region Ten with 754 cases.

In the case of Region Ten, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony suggested that the number of active cases there could be higher since there is low testing in the region.

There are hotspot areas in almost all of the regions.

In Georgetown, the community of Kitty alone has 406 positive case which represents the highest number in any area.

Sophia has 310 cases active cases while there are 245 cases in South Ruimveldt, 222 cases in Campbellville, and 220 cases in Cummings Lodge.

“So we have a number of hotspots and again, I keep urging people that they need to wear their masks and take their precautions. A lot of people are seeing all over the place mingling without masks, not keeping any social distancing, not adhering to any of the preventative measures that we have spoken about,” the Health Minister said during today’s COVID-19 update.

Other areas on the East Bank including Diamond, Grove, Eccles, Herstelling, and Providence are listed as hotspot areas while a high number of cases are turning up in Mon Repos, Non-Pariel, Better Hope, Haslington, and Paradise on the East Coast.

“And unfortunately some of these people are unvaccinated, so they are going to get infected if that is going to be their behavior and therefore we going to see the spread. SO unless we start taking precautions and unless we start caring for each other, we are going to see the virus continuing to spread, “the Health Minister warned.

The Minister is continuing his call for citizens to get vaccinated for those eligible for the booster dose to get the booster shot.
