More than 50 students from across the country are participating in an special aviation programme that is offering both theoretical and hands-on knowledge on aviation careers and the aviation industry.
The two-week programme, which started on Monday, was founded by Haveluck Hall, who is a retired Tech Sergeant of the United States Air Force, and a former student of Queen’s College.
He said the programme seeks to introduce students to the world of aviation and inspire future careers in this field.
“I came here two years ago, and I wanted to start an aviation school because I realized that Guyana is not as much into aviation as you’d like and I realized that they have some very talented kids, but aviation is not an option,” Mr Hall said.
In addition to the students receiving first-hand exposure to aviation, they will also be part of a drone presentation and guided tours of both the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and the Eugene F. Correia (Ogle) Airport. During those tours, they will be able to observe airport operations and aircraft and security protocols up close.

The programme will also feature a panel discussion, where participants will have the opportunity to interact with experienced professionals in the aviation industry – asking questions, gaining advice and hearing real life experiences about careers in the industry.
“Regardless of what is your background, where you came from, what’s your financial standing, you can make it in life and I used myself as an example, coming from a humble background,” said Egbert Fields, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, one of the speakers at the program.
According to Mr. Hall, the programme is opening doors to aviation careers, by implementing hands on learning and guidance from long-standing professionals in the industry. He intends to make the programme an annual one, and is hoping for more support from the corporate community.
