Bandits cart off guns and millions from Caricom Insurance building

Police investigators are probing a multi million dollar heist and theft of high powered weapons from the National Credit Union and Caricom Insurance Company on Regent and Ornoque Streets.

According to investigators, the incident took place just after 2 o clock on Thursday morning. Three men reportedly attacked the one security guard who was on duty, tied him up and ransacked the offices.

The bandits reportedly made off with at least 8 weapons including 5 shotguns. Three handguns were also stolen. The weapons were security issued weapons, according to a company source. The gunmen also made off with a large sum of cash believed to be well over $15 million dollars from the security safe.

The security guard who was on duty told News Source that the men tied him up while they broke into the safe with the guns and the safe with the money. He said they also knocked out the security cameras.

“They used a telephone cable to tie me up and they took away the money and all the guns. But I was able to loose myself by moving up my hands when they left and I contacted my supervisor and he came down with the police”, the guard said.

But Commander of A Division, Commander Clifton Hicken who was at the scene told News Source that the Police received a phone call about a break in. He said it was only while officers were walking through the office building that they noticed the security guard still tied up. He said the man will be questioned about what exactly took place as the investigations get underway.

He said the building and other buildings nearby on Regent Street have security cameras and the footage from those cameras will be checked as part of the probe.
