Businessman busted with 88 lbs cocaine in food exports

A 27-year-old  businessman from Albert Street, Alberttown in Georgetown remains in the custody of the Guyana Police Force after he was busted while trying to ship cocaine out of Guyana. The illegal substance was hidden in a consignment of fruits and other food products destined for New Jersey.

The businessman has been identified as Darshanan Balram.

The cocaine was tucked away in a shipment of casareep, chinese sauce, fruits and green seasoning. News Source understands that the products were already on the AmeriJet cargo plane when Police Narcotics agents at the airport intercepted it.  The man was immediately arrested.

There are reports that a number of other persons are being sought in connection with the shipment.

It is unclear how long the businessman was involved in food exports but investigators are looking into his shipment record at the Cheddi Jagan airport as they examine ties to his business in and out of Guyana.
