Berbice man nabbed with $12.5M worth of marijuana

As part of its ongoing crackdown of the drug trade in the Berbice region, the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit carried out an operation at No. 3 Village, West Coast Berbice on Wednesday.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 92.1 pounds of marijuana, which was found stashed at a house in the village.

In a statement, CANU said its agents also arrested 34-year-old Paul Lewis in connection with the bust. The man has since been transferred to CANU headquarters for questioning and is likely to face drug trafficking charges soon.

CANU said the seized marijuana has a street value of more than $12.5 million.

Investigations into the drug bust are ongoing. Earlier this week, CANU carried out an operation in the Corentyne Berbice area and found more than 100 pounds of marijuana in a single bust.
