Case dismissed against man charged with 2009 fire at Ministry of Health

The man who was charged with the burning down of the Ministry of Health building seven years ago had his case dismissed in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Keith Ferrier was caught back in March after he returned from neighbouring Venezuela where he had been hiding.

It is alleged that between July 16 and 17, 2009, Ferrier unlawfully and maliciously set fire to the Ministry of Health Building along Brickdam, Georgetown.

The Magistrate upheld a no case submission made by the Attorney for the accused, Patrice Henry.

She explained that the Prosecution’s witness failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove the elements of the offence.

The prosecutor had said that Ferrier had been positively identified by the eyewitness.

Ferrier had been on bail but left the Court on Tuesday in smiles and waved to onlookers.

He was jointly charged with 19-year-old Clayton Westford of West La Penitence, an office assistant at the Ministry of Finance and 21-year-old Tedenna Bagot, a pork-knocker, of Second Street Alexander Village.
