City Businessman found stabbed to death; Ex-employee is suspect
A wide scale investigation has been launched into the murder of well known city businessman, Farouk Ghanie who owned and managed the Hamson’s Hardware Store on Regent Street.
The 56-year-old businessman was found stabbed to death in his back yard early Thursday morning at his Collingwood Avenue, Nandy Park residence.
Investigators suspect an ex-employee who the businessman reportedly had a misunderstanding with early on Wednesday, as the person responsible for the murder.
The ex-employee has not been seen since the discovery of the man’s lifeless body.
Investigators are convinced that Ghanie was attacked and stabbed just after arriving home. A close relative told News Source that the murder does not appear linked to any robbery.
According to the relatives, from all appearances, the businessman had just arrived home and was about to feed his dogs when he was attacked and stabbed. Investigators found groceries that the businessman had bought in the house and he was found in the same clothes that he wore to work on Wednesday.
Persons in the area and employees of Hamson’s are expected to be questioned about whether they may have been aware of any threats that may have been made against Ghanie.
Family members have been left in a state of shock and say that words of encouragement from friends and associates have gone a long way in helping them to cope with the sudden loss.
Ghanie was well known in the downtown Georgetown business community. He operated his Hardware and General Store for several years. Some of his other brothers operate stores of their own in the same Regent Street area.
Police investigations are ongoing.
