A regretful Crabwood Creek, Corentyne businessman was on Thursday charged for the Facebook death threats against Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo and several other members of the opposition People’s Progressive Party.

The 39-year-old man, Kamishwar Beckham, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.

He was fined $75,000 for the offense. Should he fail to pay the fine, he will spend six months in prison.

Beckham told the Court that he regretted his actions which were done out of ignorance and he is sorry.

On May 26, Beckham threatened the lives of Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo, PPP General Secretary Clement Rohee, Former President Donald Ramotar and PPP member Dr. Roger Luncheon.

Police Prosecutor Dinero Jones told the Court that the man was a self-professed political activist. He reportedly used his phone to make the posts/comments via Facebook which was later reported to the police.

During the investigation, following Beckham’s arrest, he was taken to the Georgetown Psychiatric Ward for evaluation where he was found to be of sound mind.
