A 56-year-old man from Coverden on the East Bank of Demerara lost his life this morning when he was mowed down by a motor lorry along the Bagotstown Public Road on the East Bank of Demerara.
Police have identified the dead man as Mohan Toolsie.
A report of the incident said Toolsie exited a parked pick-up on the eastern carriageway of the four-lane road and jumped over the median to the western carriage when he ended up in the path of the motor lorry.
The driver reportedly applied brakes to avoid a collision, but due to the short distance, the motor lorry collided with the man.
Mohan Toolsie received injuries about his body and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Emergency Medical Technicians who were summoned to the scene just after the accident.
The Police in their statement said a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the lorry and no trace of alcohol was detected.
The 25-year-old driver was taken into custody to assist with the investigations.
