The Attorney for the prime suspect in the October 2025 gas station bombing case asked the Court this morning for an additional two weeks to submit a proposal to the Prosecution, even as her client repeated to the Court that he acted alone, and the other accused are innocent.
Late last month, the prime suspect – Venezuelan national, Daniel Alexander Ramirez Poedemo – told the Chief Magistrate (ag) Faith McGusty that he was the sole person responsible for the deadly bombing that claimed the life of six-year-old, Soraya Bourne – a position he repeatedly maintained when the case came up in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning.
But his assigned Attorney, Shellon Boyce, told the Court that she would need an additional two weeks to prepare a proposal based on Poedemo’s admission of guilt.
Boyce explained that the main accused has been engaged and the process has taken a step forward. However, additional time is needed to conclude the proposal.
Police Prosecutor, Mandel Moore, did not object to Boyce’s request, but asked that clear timelines be set for the provision of the Defence’s submission. Moore indicated to the Court that he too would need approximately two weeks to review the proposal and prepare the necessary paper work.
The Chief Magistrate (ag) after hearing both sides set May 4, 2026 for the submission of the proposal by the Defence, and May 20, 2026 for report. However, she warned that should no progress be made by then, she will have to proceed with the case.

But speaking through an interpreter, the prime suspect reminded the Court of his earlier admission, that he acted alone and the other accused are innocent.
Poedemo was charged with terrorism alongside Alexander Bettencourt, Jhonny Boodram and Kystal LaCruz in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court while three others – Wayne Corriea and Ramesh Pramdeo and Jennifer Rodriguez – are facing a similar charge in the Leonora Magistrates’ Court.
Poedemo told the Court that he learnt that although he admitted guilt, the other accused are still being locked up.
But the Chief Magistrate (ag) indicated to Poedemo that not because he admitted liability, the case against the others would conclude.
Chief Magistrate (ag) McGusty explained that it now depends on the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). “The DPP has to review the evidence against them,” Chief Magistrate (ag) explained further.
But that Poedemo insisted “at the end of the day, they were not involved in anything, it was only me.”
The Chief Magistrate (ag) reminded Peodemo that it is a process, and the Office of the DPP must do its work.
Poedemo’s admission last month came even as the acting Chief Magistrate was preparing to commence the Paper Committal proceedings in the terrorism case.
The accused was arrested back in October 2025, days after the explosion at the Mobil Service station on Regent Street. He was caught on camera leaving a bag in the same area that the explosion took place.
The young girl who died, was in a car with family members at the gas station when the explosive went off.
