Telecommunications company Digicel will be further investing to expand fibre services in Guyana to meet the growing demand, according to the company’s CEO for Caribbean & Central America, Marcelo Cataldo .
Already, the Digicel Fibre service is available in some communities in Region Four, but with the housing expansion, the company believes that it must have a greater footprint in the fibre space.
“We are now going to cover tens of thousands of houses and work coordinately with the government to see where the new houses will be to see how we will adjust our plans to do so,” Cataldo told News Source during a recent visit to Guyana.
The company intends to target businesses with its extended fibre offering, and according to Mr. Cataldo groundwork has already been laid to compete more aggressively in the fibre space and work is being done to finetune the company’s plans to move forward in the area.
“We have also discussed an expansion of our Fibre network because even though we have played a relevant role in mobile, we have opportunities in the Fixed business and having connectivity to the homes and businesses so we are also are looking at investments and we have started some already in amplifying our efforts in Fibre,” he said.

But while the company, is preparing for a bigger fibre rollout, the CEO noted that the Mobile customers have not been forgotten. He explained that continuous work is being done to improve its mobile data service.
“We are the number 1 in rural commerce to show the commitment of Digicel to Guyana because the remote areas are not the same and requires more technical effort and it’s a more challenging investment that having in the cities. So, I would say out work everyday shows our commitment, in addition to our offers and bundles and our wide range of packages that we have for our customers,” he noted.
The Digicel Official said with the expansion of the telecommunications network in Guyana, Digicel welcomes the competition as the company believes it will be good for the business environment and the sector. Digicel has been operating in Guyana for the past 20 years.
