The Newtown location of gold trading company, El Dorado Trading in DaSilva Street was gutted by fire this afternoon, leaving millions of dollars in damages.

The fire service was called to the business place just after 5 o’ clock this afternoon when heavy smoke was seen billowing from inside of the building.

The fire service was quick in its response as employees assisted in pointing out key locations where the fire was spreading.

Firemen were able to contain the blaze to the one building, although two nearby buildings were scorched, forcing those homeowners to take out some of their belongings.

At the scene, the CEO of the company Tamesh Jagmohan paid close attention to the work of the firemen. He would not offer any comment on his losses.

A cause of the fire has not been determined. The Guyana Fire Service has launched a probe.
