Family members of a 30-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the Enmore Regional Hospital after being taken there by the Police early this morning are demanding answers and justice.
The man, Jordan Payne of South Haslington on the East Coast of Demerara, was in Police custody since last Thursday after a domestic incident report was filed against him.
He was expected to appear in Court this morning, but his mother explained that when she visited the Cove and John Police station this morning to see her son, she was informed by the Police that he had been taken to the Hospital overnight and she should visit him there.
At the hospital, the woman said she was informed by a Doctor on duty that the man was brought to the hospital this morning in unconscious state and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Guyana Police Force announced that it was investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, explaining that he died just after 12:10 this morning after he became unresponsive while in custody at the Cove and John Police Station, East Coast Demerara.
The Police said preliminary investigations have revealed that Payne was in custody in relation to a domestic violence matter, and had earlier complained of feeling unwell and was escorted for medical attention, where he was seen and treated by a doctor on duty at the Enmore Regional Hospital before returning to the station.
The Police statement said he complained again of feeling unwell while in Police custody and subsequently became unresponsive.
He was taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
The Police said there were no marks of violence observed on the body.
Some family members, however, said they want a full probe as they were never informed that the man had fallen ill and was previously at the hospital before being taken there again this morning after he had already passed away.
A large crowd gathered at the hospital this morning, and some residents from the Haslington community later blocked a section of the main roadway, demanding justice and for details surrounding the man’s death to be made public.
Investigations are ongoing.
