Female soldier charged with woman’s murder

22-year-old Guyana Defence Force woman soldier, Abiola Jacobs of Agricola appeared in court on Wednesday and was charged with the murder of 55-year-old Donna Taylor.

She was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge but remained very quiet throughout her court appearance. She was remanded to prison and will make her next appearance on February 26, 2014.

By that date, Prosecutors told the court that the police would have completed the entire investigation into the matter. Agricola resident Donna Taylor was discovered dead in her home on last Friday night with her hands tied behind her back and her throat slit. A post-mortem examination found that she died of multiple injuries.

An overseas based friend who was visiting the Agricola home at the time was found unconscious in the yard. Police investigators believe that Private Abiola Jacobs who shared a relationship with the son of Donna Taylor, became angry over the visit by the overseas based woman to the house and believe that the woman had developed a relationship with her boyfriend.

It is believed that a disagreement between the three women led to Donna Taylor’s death. At first Police investigators thought it might have been a case of a home invasion and robbery, but after the injured woman regained consciousness, investigators got a clearer picture of what took place in the Agricola house.
