A serving member of the Guyana Defence Force is in custody this morning following investigations into a $5.5 million robbery of a woman in the Kitty area last week.
Police investigations into the robbery led them to house in Middle road, La Penitence over the weekend.
Once there, investigators found an unlicensed weapon with live rounds, several cellphones and a motorcycle, which matched the description of the ones that were used in the robbery.
A 67-year-old woman, who was the only person at home at the time of the Police search, was taken into custody.
Based on information obtained by the investigators, the GDF rank was identified and contact was made with his superiors. He was immediately handed over to the police by the Guyana Defence Force.
Police investigators say he has since admitted to the $5.5 million robbery and charges will be laid soon.
Another suspect is being sought. The name of the arrested soldier has not been released, but he is expected to make an appearance in Court this week.
