Former employee among suspects being sought for gunning down of Brazilian miner

Some of the other miners who were working at the camp escaped with only minor injuries. Many of them are Brazilian nationals also. The miners have since told investigators that the attack on the mining camp went on for several hours.

As investigations continue into the gunning down of Brazilian gold miner, Antonio Dasilva, at a Cuyuni mining camp, investigators now believe one of the man’s former employees may have been one of the gunmen who attacked the mining camp and shot him dead.

The Guyana Police Force dispatched an investigative team to the area yesterday and the team has since reported that all of the suspects spoke Portuguese.

Some of the other miners who were working at the camp escaped with only minor injuries. Many of them are Brazilian nationals also. The miners have since told investigators that the attack on the mining camp went on for several hours.

A source in the area told News Source that the miners explained that the attack on the mining camp started around 5:30 on Monday afternoon and continued until 4:30 the following morning.

During the attack, the heavily armed gunmen destroyed the dredges and other facilities and machinery at the mining camp. They also packed up all of the gold that was at the camp then just before sunlight they took the camp’s owner,  Antonio DaSilva out of the camp and shot him dead.

The Guyana Police Force investigation team dispatched from Police Headquarters is still in the area and is being assisted by “Friendly Forces”, according to the Forces’s Public Relations Department.
