Former murder accused Steve “jook ups” gunned down at Bourda market

Police investigators are probing the early morning execution styled killing of 30-year-old, Steve Lovell who was also known as Steve King and Steve “jook ups”.

The incident took place just after 3:00am on Saturday just outside the Bourda market entrance to Regent Street.

According to reports, Lovell and another friend had just left a party and were about to buy breakfast when a lone gunman came up to them and opened fire.

Lovell was shot at least 12 times to his body at close range. His friend managed to escape from the gunfire with a wound to his leg. He is being questioned by the police.

The gunman, according to witnesses, hurried away from the scene after the shooting.

Sources close to the investigation said the friend who witnessed the entire incident has been left confused and traumatized.

Vendors in the area reportedly ran for cover when the gunshots rang out.

The dead man is no stranger to law enforcement in Guyana. Back in 2008, he was charged for the murder of University of Guyana student Dennis Edghill. He was freed after the Magistrate upheld the no-case submission of his attorney. Several persons had linked him to the stabbing death and he had gone into hiding for a number of weeks before eventually turning himself in to law enforcement.

Three years ago, he was charged with forging the signature of a businessman and issuing forged cheques to the Palm Court Restaurant. He was also fingered in a number of robbery and gun possession cases.

Last year, a friend of Lovell, was shot to the neck on the Main Street just as he attempted to drive a car that was being used by Lovell. The man survived the shooting and was convinced that the execution attempt was really meant for Lovell.

News Source understands that recently, Lovell had been confiding in friends and relatives that he was fearful for his life. He reportedly never explained why the fear existed.

Police investigators are probing the murder.
