Police investigators are probing the murder of former University Professor, Dr. Perry Mars.
The 75-year-old man was found tied up and beaten to death in his Prashad Nagar home last evening. According to reports, his wife made the discovery after she returned home from work.
Police suspect that robbery may have been the motive. There are reports that a number of persons were spotted leaving the man’s house with bags of items earlier in the day. At least two women are among the suspects.
There may be security cameras in the area that could assist investigators.
Shocked relatives are trying to figure out exactly what may have happened and why the professor was targeted.
Professor Mars who was educated at the University of Guyana and a number of other universities in the US, also lived in the US and Canada for a number of years.
Investigations into the murder are continuing this morning. The Guyana Police Force and the Government have been coming under fire over the crime situation in the country.
Although the police force has reported a 19% drop in serious crimes, the country has already seen over 50 murders for this year. However, many of those have been of the domestic type.
