GGMC official dies in river mishap

The Guyana Police Force on Monday morning reported that the body of official of the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission Patrick Kellewan was recovered in Lower Pomeroon river.

The man went missing on Saturday after the boat he was travelling in slammed into another boat.  According to the Police statement, investigations revealed that Patrick Kellawan and Martin Chappel of Linden were in motor vessel proceeding up the Lower Pomeroon River when it collided with fishing boat.

Kellawan fell overboard as a result of the collision. An investigation continues into the incident.

Over the past six months, there have been a number of river accidents, prompting the Opposition parties to call for a full probe of safety along the country’s many waterways especially in the mining communities.
