Scores of Essequibo residents gathered early on Thursday morning at the newly developed Unity Park on the Essequibo Coast to meet Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and Minister of State Joseph Harmon at the second ‘Public Day’ which is being held by the coalition government.
Prime Minister Nagamotoo and Minister Harmon travelled to the community with teams from the Ministry of Citizenship, the Department of Public Service, Lands and Surveys Commission, the National Insurance Scheme and the Ministry of the Presidency.
The inaugural `Public Day’, held in December in Georgetown was declared a success by the government.
At the start of the Essequibo public day, Prime Minister Nagamootoo told those gathered that the day’s activity is a continuation of a new system of open government introduced by the coalition.
“We are not here in boardrooms making decisions that would affect your life without first coming to you,” the Prime Minister added.
He said the hope is to make some on site decisions that will form part of governments policy after consultation.
Mr. Nagamootoo was keen to point out that the outreach had nothing to do with party politics and was meant to address the concerns of all citizens.
President Granger has announced that the Ministerial public days will be taken to all regions of the country.
